Janice has been involved with delivering Modern Jive for over 9 years. Starting out at Blitz Modern Jive Sheffield which she left in 2007 to start up Northern Jive. Northern Jive Barnsley is run by Ken and Cath Bywater. They have a wealth of experience in providing great instruction from a variety of different instructors as well as great music. Together with their friendly and approachable staff it is their objective to provide you with the very best in Modern Jive instruction whilst you enjoy a great social night out. Northern Jive run modern jive dance classes, workshops and freestyle events in Barnsley, Doncaster and Wakefield. Trained Dance Instructors Come along on any Class Night and learn beginners and intermediate moves from our highly trained dance instructors. Easy to Learn Modern Jive is easy to learn - we guarantee you will be able to dance on your first night or we’ll give you your money back. And after only a few session you’ll be mixing and jiving freely with lots of other friendly dancers. No Age Barrier It doesn’t matter whether you’re 16 or 66; whether you come with a partner or on your own, you’ll find a welcoming and friendly face to greet and encourage you. Have Fun and Impress Your Friends As well as a great social night out, you’ll also be learning a dance that looks good, feels great and will impress your friends. Get Fit Without Much Effort Dancing is also good for stress relief as well as a great way to exercise and burn off those calories - and before you know it you’ll feel fitter and healthier. A Typical Class Night A typical Northern Jive evening starts at 7.30pm with a 45-minute beginners’ class followed by freestyle dancing to a range of music from blues, swing, latin to hits from the past and present – there’s something for everyone. For those who have progressed past beginners, there’s a 35-minute intermediate class finishing around 9.30pm and then freestyle dancing through till 10.30pm. Cost The cost of the whole evening including 2 classes and freestyle dancing till 10.30pm is just £6. The St Trinians freestyle at Askern in May was absolutely brilliant.  Lots who attended, dresses up and we had a fantastic fun night.

The Hawaiian freestyle in June was another great do.  I was the only one wearing coconuts - but lots of ladies (and men) put on their grass skirts!!
